The Ambassador of France

Welcome to Le French Festival 2019!

This 18th French Festival is also the first in this “New Malaysia”, who rose following the election of May 9th, 2018.

The French Festival thus wished to immerse itself in the vitality of the Malaysian society and reach an even wider audience by engaging young people in particular. With this in mind, we set up new collaborations with local artists who will perform masterpieces of the French culture, not only musical ones -with the Kamerata Kuala Lumpur orchestra and pianist Mei Lin Hii- but also theatrical. Indeed, the famous Malaysian company KL Shakespeare Players will perform a version of Cyrano de Bergerac created exclusively for Le French Festival, also aimed at public schools with dedicated performances.

Through recent French cinema hits such as Edmond (2019), a comedy fittingly about the genesis of Cyrano in 1897, Le French Festival will give you a glimpse of French creation in its diversity with 15 films of all genres shown on the screens of our partner Golden Screen Cinemas in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu.

This French Festival will introduce Malaysian audiences to French artists such as actor Lorànt Deutsch, the dancers of the Art Move Concept company and painter Argadol. It also invites you to enjoy the French way of life thanks to numerous tastings.

Le French Festival would not exist without all the sponsors and partners who support it and make its growing success possible. I thank them warmly, as I do the Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur and Alliance Française de Penang teams for their commitment.

Le French Festival welcomes you enthusiastically. This year’s programme is an invitation to make encounters: Franco-Malaysian encounters, encounters which will surprise you, move you, fill your heads with dreams and make you want to share experiences.

Welcome to Le French Festival 2019!

As it has over the past 18 years, the French Festival invites you once more to discover the diversity of French culture through an original line-up fit to please all audiences: films, concerts, exhibitions, a one-man show, a hip hop performance and, for the first time, a brand new adaptation of the famous play Cyrano de Bergerac created specifically for us. This year’s festival also includes many tastings and culinary workshops, one of which will even teach you how to bake French bread!

The entire Alliance team and its partners are happy to offer you a strong and eclectic programme, hoping it will make you fall in love with French culture!

I wish you all a fantastic festival.

Our Special Guest - Sharifah Amani

Welcome to Le French Festival 2019!

As a proud Malaysian I have always been intrigued by the diversity of my country and the world, to which French cinema and culture belong.

I am thinking, naturally, of first-class productions such as Amélie but also of some world-renowned actors and actresses such as Marion Cotillard.

This year, the festival is promoting an eclectic programme which will delight all audiences and truly reflects today’s French cinema. From comedies to animated films via dramas and historical tales, all genres are called upon to offer you a selection of films which have already enchanted millions of viewers.

I sincerely encourage you to join us on this adventure and discover a side of cinema you have never seen before.
